The UAE marked International Workers’ Day, celebrated annually on May 1, with a series of activities organized by both public and private sectors. Events were held nationwide to recognize and appreciate the contributions of workers under the theme “Honouring Our Workers.” Celebrations included distributing gifts, awarding outstanding employees across various sectors, including domestic workers, and visiting hospitalized individuals recovering from workplace injuries.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) took the opportunity to stress the importance of occupational health and safety. Detailed guidelines were released to ensure safe and healthy work environments while urging all private sector organizations to comply with these standards to reduce workplace hazards.
Dalal Alshehhi, acting assistant undersecretary for Labour Protection at MoHRE, highlighted that supporting and honoring workers aligns with the UAE’s 2031 goals and economic strategies. She emphasized that improving workers’ happiness and fostering a sense of belonging boosts engagement and reflects the country’s commitment to respect, compassion, and inclusion.
Recognizing labour contributions on special occasions like International Workers’ Day has become a defining aspect of the UAE’s labour policy. These efforts enhance the labour market’s appeal, attract talent, and foster collaborative growth among various stakeholders. This forward-thinking approach is seen as foundational to the UAE’s success and national progress.
The Ministry remains committed to improving conditions for workers through regular monitoring, updated policies, and fostering engagement across sectors. Initiatives like these underscore the UAE’s role as a leader in promoting worker welfare and sustainability.
